Room 16 Homework

Term 2

Week 1

Due: Tuesday 5th May (Week 2)

Homework is now going to be set from Monday to Tuesday of the following week. The next week's homework will still be issued on a Monday. This will give you a bit of extra time to finish off homework, without ruining your family's Sunday evenings with the stress and worry of not having completed your homework! Please still use your time wisely so you can make a good start on the next week's homework when it is issued.

Reminders:

  • Keep collecting for World Vision!!

Task One: House design model

Complete your house model on the section with landscaping. You do not need to spend lots of money on materials for your house, instead, see what you can find around the house that can be used. Here are some ideas...
  • toothpicks and string to make a clothes line
  • dirt, sand or bark rubbed on glue to make the garden look authentic
  • sand mixed with green paint to give the grass texture
  • cellophane to cover the windows or swimming pools for a glass or water effect
  • scraps of cardboard to model a skate ramp
  • cuttings from plants for miniature plants in your garden. these can be secured with blue tack, and the blue tack painted to disguise it
Try to reuse rather than buy stuff, it makes it more of a challenge and exciting!

Task Two: House design advertising poster

Complete your house design poster after it has been started in class and requirements discussed. You must include the following on your poster:
  • company name and logo
  • heading
  • name of house
  • price
  • floor plan
  • 3-D drawing (from enlarged drawing)
  • features of the house (e.g. swimming pool, separate lounge and dining, indoor outdoor flow, etc)
  • persuasive language. Try to persuade people to buy your house (e.g. Designer's delight! This one won't last! get in quick! Only a fool would let this offer pass them by! Going, going...)
LOGO: Your logo must include 2 out of the four following types of symmetry:
reflection, translation, rotation, tessellation.

Please think VERY carefully about your layout. What should be your main focal point of the advertisement? What colours will you use and why? What type of font will you use for your headings! How will you set out the features? (bullet points, list, pictures, etc). Your poster must have flow.

Task Three: e-portfolios: ABOUT ME

This week at home, I would like you to update your 'About Me' section using the following format. Please use correct English. Text language and slang may be okay on Bebo or Myspace, but your eportfolio is a record of academic achievement and learning processes, not for social networking!

  • My favourite school subjects:
  • My favourite novel:
  • My extra-curricular activities: (the groups you beling to outside of school, eg swimming, ballet, scouts)
