Task One: Health and Physical Education: Beach Safety
Danger Signs: Design and create an A4 poster warning the public of 3 dangers at the beach that we have talked about in class. Think about layout, format, colours, graphics, symbols, fonts and text, composition, background. You may use a computer to create your poster if you wish. Your poster must be suitable for EVERYONE, that is including visitors to NZ who don't speak much English! Please do not glue this into your homework books as they will be displayed in class!
Task Two: Social Sciences and Inquiry: Citizenship (Rights and Responsibilities)
Visit the BBC Schools site: Citizen X. View Parts 1-4 of the Me Responsible? Yeah Right! Answer the discussion questions at the end of each part in your homework books.
Answer the following questions in full in your books as you view each part:
Part 1
1. What does Mr Wedon ask the students? (list 5 rights and 5 responsibilities). Write your own answers to this.
2. What would you do now if you were Donny?
Part 2
3. Why is Guy rude to adults and children? Does he have the right to say what he thinks, regardless of the outcome?
4. How does Ms Simpson use the guy? (to make up school situations).
Part 3:
5. Write your own definitions for 'rights' and 'responsibilities'.
6. Make two lists - of the rights and responsibilities of people in schools.
Part 4:
7. Make a table for 'students' rights' and 'teachers' rights'.
8. How would you try to convince Donny about his rights and responsibilities?

Write down the top 3 tasks you tried and write a brief explanation of how you think they could help advance your learning. Be prepared to share this in class.
